Question: Vet techs recommended declawing?
I took my kitten to the vet today for her last round of boosters and her rabies shot.
When I came out of the exam room, one of the vet techs mentioned the price of declawing to someone. My boyfriend looked at me & I told him that I’m not having her declawed! Both of the technicians recommended it. Their reasoning was “otherwise she’ll be tearing up your furniture”.
I have always been strongly against declawing. I believe it’s unnecessary mutilation for convenience. I have seen firsthand how declawing can make a cat aggressive. My boyfriend thinks it’s perfectly fine and insists we have it done. I am not going to allow anyone to mutilate MY cat for ANY reason!!
Am I wrong? I was kind of shocked and embarrassed when both vet techs suggested it. I am firm in my beliefs but am starting to wonder if my argument is valid…
Opinions?

MY vet refuses to do it, claiming it’s mutilation. The only exceptions is if the paw is crushed or tumors are present on the bones.
Don’t use the vet if you have qualms about them recommending unnecessary proceedures.
