Question: Does Iams Indoor Weight and Hairball Care Work?
My friend just adopted a main coon cat from a shelter. She asked me everything she should get, considering I have two kittens. Since her cat is 6yrs. old she is getting fat being indoors and has hairballs. She said “should I get Iams Indoor Weight and Hairball Care cat food?” and I said NO! I told her to feed Merrick, or Wellness Core (like me) or Felidaie. She said no. It is much easier for her to go to petco or petsmart than a small petvalu to get the high quality stuff, I told her to try vaseline, but she said no, (again). I will admit she isn’t a very responsible pet owner but I am not going to ruin our friendship over a kitty. She bought Iams anyway, and I want to know does it work. At least if I know it will help her keep the apinful hairballs away, I will be a little calmer untill I can convince her to go for a way better brand.

No, it doesn’t. Iams contains as many fillers (if not more) than most grocery store brands, which is the main cause of weight gain. Iams is total crap, and its a shame she didn’t listen to you. As far as the hairballs, I honestly don’t know if it does. I know that it does nothing for the cats health tho, so even if it works for hairballs it still wouldn’t be worth feeding that junk to my pet.
Question: A “gut” on a fit, healthy-weight indoor male cat?
I have an extremely fit and active 3 YO neutered American Bobtail. He is 100% healthy, up to date on immunizations and vet visits. He is muscular and sleek…except for a droopy tummy at his lower abdomen, and into the area between his hind legs. It hangs down about 2 inches at the longest point. It feels like loose skin and swings side to side when he trots around the house (LOL!)
He is fed dry food freely, but eats less per day than the recommendation on the bag of food. He’s been on dry Science Diet his whole life – that will be phased out with a healthier brand soon, as I only recently learned that SD isn’t healthy. He occasionally has table scraps 1-2x/wk, but in tiny amounts – a tablespoon of tuna water or a few plain peas.
I have heard people say that neutering can make a cat heavier, but I think that’s a myth without scientific evidence (right?) So, could his gut be the result of eating “junk food” like Science Diet, or is it genes?

The gut is totally normal. Most cats have them.
Question: Has anyone’s cat gotten sick from eating “Purina’s Indoor Formula Cat Food” ?
If so what were their symptoms.
I recently bought a new bag. My cat has been throwing up for two days. She seems back to normal this morning. We have to be cautious.
It’s Saturday morning and she’s throwing up again after eating the same food. I’m off to the store to get a bag of regular Purina Cat Chow,

no but i have had my cat get sick from eating other objects, like parts of nerf balls, hair bands, cotton balls…… the symptoms he had were throwing up, he wasn’t active at all, he kind of went off into his own little corner and wasn’t very social, and my cat loves absolutely everyone! except my dog Gracie
Question: If I feed “indoor cat food” to my outside cat, will she get sufficient calories and nutrients?
The weather is cold (37 to 50 degrees F), windy and rainy. The reason I am asking is because I got the food for free and want to know if the food is healthy for the outside cats.

Probably not a good idea- indoor cats have different needs than outdoor cats. And you don’t want to give her new food for a little while and then switch her back- her tummy may not like that idea!
What you could do with the free food is donate it at PetSmart or PetCo- they usually have a partnership with a local animal rescue group which will make good use of the food.
