Question: Would You Feed Your Cat Diseased Meat?
According to “7 Scary Things You Didn’t Know about Your Pet’s Food” ( http://members.cox.net/maggieameanderings/2011-Feb-27.htm ) diseased meat, meat that’s been declared not fit for humans (because it’s cancerous, etc), is used to make cat food.
If you found out your pet’s food was made with diseased meat would you continue to feed it to your cat? Or would you figure the cooking process would get rid of whatever’s wrong with it?

Ummmm… slightly freaked out… that’s gross!!! But I’m sure it’s made ‘clean’ seeing as my cat’s fine although she doesn’t eat wet food anymore. But still, eeeewwwww!
Question: How many cans of wet cat food do you feed your grown kitty each day? My kitty is about six months right now.?
He’s been eating dry “kitten food” (Purina 1) but I would like to feed him canned food also. I give him however much dry food he likes but am worried that I will feed him too much wet food! LOL. And for all the idiots out there, this question only applies to cat owners who feed canned food.
Thanks Ken. I do know that wet cat food is better (but I do plan on giving him a bit of dry to help control tartar build up.) The reason I haven’t been feeding canned is because I see no canned cat food made for kittens in the store. However now that I’m writing this to you, duh, I can probably get some at the vet’s! Funny how the mind works.
P.S.- Didn’t realize that about not being better for their teeth. I just thought it was because it sounds so crunchy, like after you eat an apple and your teeth are nice and clean, you know? But I think I might give all canned a go now.

You have it kind of backwards. You should be eliminating the dry food. I would feed as much wet as he wants at this time
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

No don’t feed it! Tell your neighbor to keep it out of your yard or you’ll call authorities it’s not cat’s fault! He’s apparently not neutered!
Question: What is the right kind of food (treats too) to feed my ferret?
I live in Sweden and I have trouble finding a good brand of ferret food at pet stores here. I’ve read that most “ferret foods” are not really made/tested for ferrets and they’re mostly just expensive cat food with a ferret on the label. Is there a good brand, actually made for and tested on ferrets, not cats, that i can find online in Europe? Shipping is really expensive, not to mention customs fees/taxes, if I order from the USA. Also, can someone give me ideas on what kind of treats I can feed my little stinky (male 5 months old) that are healthy for him?

Question: what should i feed my kitten/cats?
we have 8 in total (ages 4months – 8years) some like real beef mince meet (the type we eat) others like chicken parts and other like the packet wet cat food, now some say the real mince is better BUT one of my cats got kidney stones as a result of eating it (the vet said it was still ok to feed them on it though as this was rareish) but i have never heard of things like that happening with wet cat food but some people say that stuff is really crap for them? i don’t know what to do, the vet is no help she just says “either is fine, but you would make your life easier to use wet cat food” well i don’t care about making my life easier i just want whats best and i keep getting mixed signals about different foods? what do you think i should do?

I think what you’re doing is fine although you do need to supplement with taurine. It’s essential for cats. Use a multivitamin to insure that the cats get 100% of vitamins and nutrients daily.
I think a high quality canned food would also be great. Wellness, Innova, Chicken Soup or California Naturals.
Question: What is good to feed your cat?
I’ve heard good things about wellness and eukaneuba. Heard some good things about Iams too but that the much of the Iams distributed out there is not as nutritious as before because marketers are trying to make it more accessible and thus profitable (is there a place to get their original food? doesn’t matter if it’s slightly more costly). What are your opinions about these brands?
Also, what is your thought on feeding your cat food that is not grocery bought “cat food”. I.e. buying raw meats and other ingredients and cooking for your cat? Is that nutritious or just a fun treat?

cat chow
Question: Do you feed your cat wet food or dry food? Or both? Do you “free food” them too? Which is better?
Answer:
Answer by flaridise
IT depends on the cat… but i think either is fine. If you mean like human food as “freefood” i don’t think that’ll be good for them. Cat treats are alright though. Just don’t overdo it or they’ll be overweight.
Question: What should i feed my cat .. other than the market’s (CAT FOOD) ?
Ok.. so i cant really afford to get the cat “cat food” cuz its simply too expensive in my country .. therefore … i wanted to ask .. what can the cat eat from the food that i “as a human” eat … i know that he really likes the milk and the water (DUHH) … and he really liked the cheese … wat other types of food would it eat
he is around 7 weeks old (60 days)
persian male cat
Ok .. so that u would understand what i am talking about .. the cat was like a gift from people we know .. i had a cat when i was younger .. but we were in a better financial position … and the cat i had wasn’t mine … it was my uncles who wasn’t married at the time and i was staying at my grandma’s while our house was being decorated. (the commercial cat food would cost an equivalent of 4~6$ per day ..
They guy who talked about “go raw” what do you mean by organs ??

Most human foods will not provide him with the nourishment he requires. He soon will likely become lactose intolerant, so milk will cause him problems. Most cats, once weaned, become lactose intolerant, so water is fine. Yes, even if lactose intolerant many cats like a bit of cheese, but it becomes a small part of their diet.
Kitten chow is really best, and while you say you cannot afford it, if he doesn’t get the required trace ingredients, over a few months you may have a dead cat, or one with serious health issues that cannot be reversed. And that becomes a lot more expensive.
Cats are carnivores, and I have given a link to an article from the Cornell Vet School on cats foods, and what to look for in ingredients. It doesn’t matter what country you live in, cats need the same nourishment around the world.

Question: If I feed “indoor cat food” to my outside cat, will she get sufficient calories and nutrients?
The weather is cold (37 to 50 degrees F), windy and rainy. The reason I am asking is because I got the food for free and want to know if the food is healthy for the outside cats.

Answer by sara_pk1
Probably not a good idea- indoor cats have different needs than outdoor cats. And you don’t want to give her new food for a little while and then switch her back- her tummy may not like that idea!
What you could do with the free food is donate it at PetSmart or PetCo- they usually have a partnership with a local animal rescue group which will make good use of the food.
